To realise LeadGal’s aspiration of equipping adolescents with life skills and character-building programmes, we visited one of Bandung’s prominent national plus schools, Temasek Independent School (TIS Bandung).
After several months of preparation, we finally made it last Friday, 14th October 2022. The event was held in order to celebrate the United Nations’ International Day of the Girl Child that took place on Tuesday, 11th October 2022.
With TIS Bandung, we conducted three separate sessions between the girl students, the boy students, and the parents. There were about 400 students and parents participating.
The girl students were gathered at the gym. We have several modules specifically tailored for them, such as Knowing Your Self-Worth, Courageousness, Decision-Making, and Law.
We invited Mrs Tanya Widjaja Kusumah, the Managing Associate at Anggraeni and Partners, to share the law and her experience in the profession with the students. Our team, Ms Sri Purnama, Ms Gabrielle Kezia, and Ms Dararima Sari, facilitated the other three modules.
The activities are also for the boy students. Organised at the school’s hall, they were taught the 20 principles, each reflecting on how to treat people, especially those of different genders. Boy students watched two short movies and had a fruitful discussion concerning the film.
At the end of their session, the boys prepared a simple poster on how to treat girls. The posters were displayed on the school’s aisle as a part of the Surprise Gallery Walk for the girls.s.
For the parents, a seminar and discussion were held concerning children’s rights and how to approach children, especially girls, on facing issues concerning their gender.
We received a tremendous amount of feedback both from students and parents. We hope to reach more students and deliver more programmes to schools, including another visit to TIS Bandung.
Be a part of our movement by becoming volunteers, partner institutions, speakers, or donators. Together, we create a more significant impact on society.
Let’s Educate, Engage, and Encourage. LeadGal!
